Our Beliefs

In today's world, having a clear understanding of the church's beliefs is crucial. At Redemption Church, we are strongly committed to the scriptures as our guide in all matters of faith.

Our Values

  • We believe what the scriptures say about Jesus, and therefore, we believe what Jesus says about Himself. We believe He alone is the Savior, Christ, and Lord (Luke 1:11). Everyone worships what they believe is most important in their life. We believe Jesus to be the single most important truth in anyone’s life, so we see Him as worthy of our worship and our highest value.

  • God has revealed Himself in the Bible. We see this revelation as being crucial in developing a relationship with Him. Knowing who God really is sets us on the proper platform to truly know Him. Prayer nurtures this relationship as we commune with Him and come to know His voice. We are then more and more useful for His purpose.

  • We see that the revelation of God gives us the Father, Son, and the Spirit. God has forever lived in the community of the Trinity. Because we are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27), we need community. In our small groups, we can open up with each other and really press into the realities of our faith. This is where the gifts of God are exercised and we can build relationships with each other. Praying for each other, confession, study, and the simple enjoyment of one another are crucial for our maturing in the knowledge of God.

Another aspect of community is where we live. As a local church, our desire is to show Christ to those in our community. We do not want to live behind the walls of our church. We want to get out and be a vital asset in our community. Our desire is to serve the surrounding communities of Newark, Ohio.

  • Jesus was the ultimate example of how to make disciples. Making disciples is not just one on one. It is involvement in the church, serving, helping, outreach and small groups. The more we see the value in pursuing Christ and the value of one another, discipleship will be the natural outcome. Jesus did not form programs. He formed relationships centered around the truth.

our Core Beliefs

  • There is one eternal God who is creator, sustainer and redeemer. God exists in three persons: Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. They are co-eternal in being, co-equal in power and glory, and have the same attributes and perfections. God is presently at work in the world to redeem humanity and to establish His Eternal Kingdom.

  • Jesus is the redeemer for all who believe in His sacrificial death on the cross and subsequent resurrection to glory. He is fully God and fully human, born of a virgin, and lived a sinless life before God. His substitutionary death atoned for our sins and accomplished salvation for those who believe in Him.

  • The Holy Spirit is the promised indwelling gift for every believer. The Spirit gives gifts to every believer to equip them for this life and to testify to the truth of Christ. It is the Spirit’s power that transforms and empowers us to live a life that pleases God. We believe the Spirit is a person and not an ambiguous force. We are able to have a relationship with Him and know His voice. He is our healer, comforter, and helper to understand the word of God.

  • The more we attempt to alter the truth of God the further we get from the grace of God. We stand with the truth of scripture. It is the only way to know and relate to the one true God. It is trustworthy and our authority in all matters.

  • Humanity was created to enjoy a relationship with God. The further we get away from God the more chaos we experience. We are made to live in His blessings. Sin, however, has separated us from Him and places us in a position of rebellion against Him. In this separation we are condemned before His perfect holiness and will be judged by what we have done. Our merits before God are nothing because they are covered by our sin.

  • Salvation is God’s gracious gift to humanity out of His intense love for us. When someone believes in the work of God through Jesus and repents of their sins, they are no longer separated but are now “In Christ”. Salvation is not based on anything we do, but on what Jesus accomplished on the cross and His resurrection. The separation is now gone, and we are adopted into the family of God and given the righteousness of Christ. With the penalty of sin removed, we are now free to enjoy God as His children.

  • We believe God made man in His image - male and female. We operate at our best when we walk in this truth. To alter this truth to fit our desires hurts us as humans. Our desires can be satisfied in other ways, but ultimately it will damage our identity and steal the life we could experience in Christ. While we welcome anyone and would treat everyone with love and kindness, we hold this as a moral truth.

  • The church is composed of believers from every tribe and nation. The universal church will one day be unified in eternity together. The local church is a gathering of believers who pursue Christ, fellowship, worship and share each other’s burdens. It is not a business. It is first and foremost a family. Our church strives to love one another and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  • We do not believe baptism saves a person. Baptism is a public display of what has already happened in a believer’s heart. It is a symbolic act of going under the water for the removal of their sins and being brought up in the new life of Christ. The water does not do this - Christ did this for us. Our faith in Christ saves us; baptism is an expression of what our faith in Christ has already accomplished.

  • As believers, we celebrate communion in accordance with 1 Corinthians 11:27. This practice is a reminder of the brutality of the cross and the necessity of His sacrifice that brings us into new life. We tend to forget the cost of salvation. Communion reminds us of what our Savior accomplished.

  • The promise of a personal return of Jesus is the source of our hope and joy. The Kingdom of God has already begun but will be fully consummated at the return of Jesus. He will return in power and establish an eternal kingdom where He will rule righteously forever.

  • We believe that all life is sacred and begins at conception. We not only see all people regardless of what they believe as valuable but we also believe the unborn are valuable and precious to God.
